Masterclass Art Talk: Penang, Singapore, Nanyang & Yong Mun Sen
Hong Kong, April 11, 2025
UP CLOSE and personal with Mr Kwok Kian Chow, art museum director extraordinaire from Singapore; delve into the labyrinth of ethnic identities, postcolonial transitions and modernity.
Curator Masterclass, in collaboration with the Michael & Saniza Collection, will be hosting an exclusive Masterclass Art Talk at CVIEW: Penang, Singapore, Nanyang & Yong Mun Sen.
The talk traces the evolution of the Nanyang Style discourse that emerged after the 1970s, while also revisiting mid-century art developments in the context of postcolonial transitions. Our journey takes us even further back to explore the life and art of Yong Mun Sen (1896-1962), generating readings on Mun Sen’s art practices in the context of the close relations between Penang and Singapore, and highlighting cultural dimensions of the Nanyang region.
