SINGAPORE’S vibrant theatrical scene is set to welcome a unique event that blends music, storytelling, and exquisite dining. On July 27, 2025, at 7.30pm, the Shangri-La Singapore will host “Dinner with Emily”, a captivating dinner revue inspired by the acclaimed Emily the Musical.
This special evening invites audiences to journey through the life and emotions of Emily Gan while indulging in an authentic Peranakan dining experience.
Musical celebration of Emily’s life
Based on Stella Kon’s award-winning play Emily of Emerald Hill, this musical adaptation breathes new life into the tale of a Peranakan matriarch navigating the complexities of love, tradition, and personal ambition. Adapted into a musical by Stella and Desmond “Dezz” Moey, Emily the Musical enriches the powerful monodrama with a stirring score that accentuates Emily’s joys and sorrows.

This dinner revue format, specially curated for the event, will present key highlights of Emily’s journey in an intimate three-act structure, in a show produced by Desmond and coordinated by director Eleanor Tan.

One-of-a-kind theatrical dining experience
Unlike traditional stage productions, “Dinner with Emily” offers a fresh, interactive format designed for an engaging dinner theatre experience. The evening unfolds in three acts, performed between meal courses, ensuring a seamless blend of dramatic storytelling and culinary delight.
ACT ONE: The audience is introduced to Emily and her husband, Gan Joo Kheong, in the grandeur of Emerald Hill. Songs such as Welcome to Emerald Hill and Beni Macham Belian set the stage for Emily’s rise as the matriarch.
ACT TWO: Emily’s early marriage at 14 and her struggles as a mother and wife take centre stage. With songs like Lifetime With You and Mother and Child, the audience witnesses her heartbreak as her son Richard rebels, and her husband strays.
ACT THREE: The show concludes with themes of love, resilience, and nostalgia, as Emily reflects on her life. Songs like Emerald Hill Waltz and Love Was All I Wanted capture the emotional depth of her story.
